Volvo Construction Equipment has initiated the process of bringing two Korean manufacturers of undercarriage parts to start their operations in the country to increase localization. The new undercarriage parts manufacturers will supply parts to Volvo and other construction companies as said by Dimitrov Krishnan, MD of Volvo CE India.
A recent delegation visit to Japan from the associates of the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association (ICEMA) regarding the new initiative, Mr Krishnan added. Krishnan further said about India’s supply chain which has significantly improved with Volvo CE bringing new products with 70% local content. “It’s a tough challenge but we are making it happen” Krishnan added.
Volvo CE launched the new EC 210, a 20-tonne hydraulic excavator last month. Excavator has monthly sales of 30,000 to 35,000 units and is the second largest product in India’s construction equipment market. The 20-tonne category in excavators is extremely important as it has a share of 70% in total excavator sales or 18,000 to 20,000 units every year. “This segment is too important to ignore,” Krishnan said.
